Why do awful things always have to happen to great people?
Two weeks ago when I was talking to Colin Meloy, the Decemberists' tour manager Peter (who's an asshole beyond belief) came out of the bus and started shouting at us because Colin was standing outside in a t-shirt. He got all worked up about him getting sick because of me etc. and ushered him into the bus. Now, I know Colin gets sick easily, that's the reason why he's usually wearing scarfs and things when he's outside, but what happened now must be god's punishment for asshole-Peter. Colin hasn't got a cold, but he got mysterious food poisoning on his birthday (!!) last Friday. Apparently he could barely stand at the birthday show in Wolverhampton and now they've cancelled the rest of the European tour, a total of 7 dates, to get him home and into a hospital as soon as possible.
I'm so worried and sorry for the fans who won't get the chance to see them 'til 2009. But mostly worried. Not only is he my favourite musician of all time, but he's also the sweetest, nicest person you could ever imagine and he doesn't deserve to be sick this often. I can also imagine how all of them feel about all the people who wanted to see them, it must be awful. Especially because they care about their fans so much. The only comforting thoughts now are a.) that this hasn't happened earlier and a lot of us Europeans already got to enjoy them and b.) the image of asshole-Peter's face when he had to cancel the shows, serves him right. Karma's a bitch, honey.
Now that I'm officially part of 'the D's touring family', they should've taken me to Britain with them, this wouldn't have happened if I'd made Colin birthday cake full of true and deep fangirlish love.
